Then maybe you might like to apply for our EVS Full-time Volunteer programme. Every year we take on three EVS volunteers who are willing to give up to a year to volunteer with our Elderly friends in Dublin City.
You would engage directly with elderly people, under the supervision of our Co-ordinator, helping us to assess their needs and coordinating other volunteers within our befriending programme for older people. You role would also involve helping to organize outings, holidays, parties, theatre visits and other activities. You would also help out on occasion in our retail shop "Ritzy Rags". There are general house duties for our centre, computer tasks and many other things that can be done from day to day.
We will provide you with a flat for you and the two other full time volunteers, at our premises, right in the middle of the city centre. As you would be living in the city centre there are many places of interest only a brief walk away. All amenities are provided free including rent, light, heat, and water. We pay you a stipend to cover food expenses but we also return all other expenses that are directly incurred by you to support our elderly friends.

Although our application process is open to all over the age of 21+, we ask applicants to explain their reasons for wanting to volunteer with older people and during the interview, provide a series of challenging situations for them to consider how they would respond. We would ideally prefer candidates who has some experience with older people and who are interesting in or currently studying in a social care field. The older people that we work with are in need of emotional support, it is important that all successful volunteers have a certain maturity and ability to cope with people occasionally in distress. A high level of English is required and a background in Social Care/Social work is ideal.
We ask any potential EVS Full-time Volunteer to be available to stay for at least one year. This allows enough time for the elderly, and you to build good friendships. The positions arise at different times during the year and we take new applicants on an ongoing basis. The closing dates are quarterly and applications will be assesed successfully completed applications received as they arrive. We will try to assess your application to your needs as closely as we can.
If you would be interested in applying for one of the EVS Full-time Voluntary positions, all applications are now taken on-line. You will need to fill in our on-line form and as well, be able to send to us your current Curriculum Vitae including any applicable references.
