About Friends of the Elderly

Friends of the Elderly is an Irish charity and a voluntary body. Our mission is to bring friendship to the elderly who live alone and are lonely and isolated. Our volunteers visit the elderly that are referred to us by social workers, GP's, absent relatives or concerned neighbours. Our student volunteers keep in touch with our elderly friends with a weekly 'Friendly Call' and hand made special occassion cadrs are posted on birhtdays, Christmas, Easter etc. By keeping up social contact and acting early we have often prevented a problem, exacerbated by loneliness, becoming a crisis.
