Heroes Gallery is a selection of photographs showing the positive side of elderly people. Photographs of elderly people leading full, active lives; elderly people who refuse to fit into the the stereotype; elderly people who bravely face the challenges of each day.

 

Valentine's Day 2009

Winners of the 2009 Most Romantic Elderly Couple Competition, Anne and Michael Doyle, 74 and 80. Anne and Michael are from Finglas and have been married 55 years. They have five children and fourteen grandchildren. The Doyle's are pictured with Transition Year students from Mount Carmel Secondary School and Scoil Chaitriona at the award ceremony in the ILAC Shopping Centre on Valentine's Day.

SENIOR CITIZENS MARCH ON DAIL EIREANN - Fifteen thousand senior citizens expressed their anger at the government's attempt to means test the free medical card for the over 70's. Their attendance at a protest rally at Dail Eireann, organized by the Irish Senior Citizens Parliament on Thursday 22 October 2008 resulted in the proposal being withdrawn. An outstanding victory for Ireland's senior citizens. Friends of the Elderly are proud to have played their part.
